"Every low desire, every bad habit, 

all longings for ignoble things, 

all wrong feelings that we conquer and tramble down, 

become ladder-rounds for our feet, 

on which we climb upward out of grovelling 

and sinfulness into nobler, grander life. 

If we are not living victoriously these little common days, 

we are not making any progress in true living. 

Only those who climb are getting toward the stars.
